A SUCCESS STORY
reported by elias b. arun

Jason Yong (left), 16, has a deeply shameful secret in which he has hidden for years. Though he usually covers that up with his idiocy and his unusually good euphonium playing, the secret has finally been unearthed by this reporter. Horror of horrors, Jason do not know to do the simple task of riding a bicycle!

Bicycle
-noun
1. a vehicle with two wheels in tandem, usually propelled by pedals connected to the rear wheel by a chain, and having handlebars for steering and a saddlelike seat.

For centuries people have learnt to ride this relatively new invention called the bicycle with apparent ease. Jason, due to a very rare gene defect, just has difficulties riding the bicycle. But as of yesterday, 18 December, this reporter and a volunteer, Geraint Ho, achieved a miracle.

Jason had approached this reporter for help in riding a bicycle. Initially this reporter felt it was of no use, as the gene defect does not allow him to ride a bicycle. However, in response to Jason and his friends, Ignatius and Reggie's enthusiasm, this reporter and Geraint decided to give it a try.

The bicycle has been rented. This reporter and Geraint slowly usher Jason up the saddle seat. Holding him firm and steady, the duo gave instructions to Jason in unlocking the secret to riding the bicycle. As his legs start to peddal, the duo sees a glimmer of hope. 10 seconds later, the glimmer became a blinding ray, as the duo lets go of the handle bars..

.. and tada! Jason is riding a bicycle. The gene defect had been overcome. In a mere 10 seconds. Though there are still balancing problems, but with practice, Jason soon will turn professional in the art of cycling the bicycle. Maybe, just maybe, he will be Singapore's first ever MotoGP racer.

And as the sun sets, this reporter smiles at another job well done.
